Overview

ACRE is a research and justice-focused initiative that supports rural communities by making complex environmental and right-to-farm information accessible, usable, and actionable for the public.
I am leading the redesign and rebrand of the ACRE website in close collaboration with the project’s faculty lead, using UX best practices to clarify content, improve navigation, and establish a visual identity that emphasizes mutualism, accessibility, and environmental justice. My role spans planning and executing, user research, information architecture, and visual and interaction design, with the goal of translating dense academic and legal material into a human-centered digital experience for non-expert audiences.
Problem Space
Important Work, Hidden in Plain Sight

01 Designed Without A Story
The site doesn’t clearly explain ACRE’s role or impact, which leaves many users unsure of what the initiative actually does or why it matters.

02 Users Don’t Know Where or Whom to Ask For help
Visitors often reach out with vague or misplaced questions or contact the wrong person, because the site doesn’t guide them on who to contact or what support is available.

03 Existing Toolsets Confuse and Distract
Interactive map tools and their associated data are spread across multiple tabs and pages, making it harder for users to explore data and understand how pieces connect.
